About NUJS

The 2009 ILSA International Conference will be held 22-25 July at the National University of Juridical Sciences in Kolkata, India. The National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) was established in the year 2000. Situated in Salt Lake City, Kolkata, the cultural capital of the country, the University has a robust student body with students from throughout India and abroad. The University, in the span of the last eight years, has become one of the premier law colleges in the country. It is now firmly established as one of the finest academic institutions in India and its achievements—legal, literary, cultural, and athletic—have catapulted it to the ranks of premier institutions globally.

 

The B.A./ B.Sc. LL.B. (Hons.) degree program is a five year integrated law course offered by NUJS after completion of the Higher Secondary (10+2) level. The Course structure of the University is innovative and more scientifically designed to set it apart as a centre of excellence in legal studies. The Chief Justice of India is the Chancellor of the University.

 

The law program NUJS provides students with a comprehensive learning experience by offering students opportunities to develop legal skills through participation in extracurricular activities. During the past eight years, NUJS students have excelled in Moot Court Competitions in India and throughout the world. The list of achievements includes winning the William C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna, 2003, William C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot (East) in Hong Kong, 2005, Stetson University Moot Court Competition, 2005 in the United States, the Commonwealth International Moot Court Competition, emerged third at the Manfred Lachs International Space Law Moot Court Competition (Asia Pacific Rounds) in Australia, 2006, as well as participating in the renowned Philip C. Jessup Cup, emerging as national champions and doing commendably in the international rounds in Washington, 2005 and 2007.
